Lire l’humain : Aragon, Ponge : esthétiques croisées
Résumé
Confronting the works of Aragon and Ponge brings up literary, political and anthropological issues. These two figures of twentieth-century literature, related to avant-garde figures, from Dada and surrealism (Aragon) to Tel Quel (Ponge), briefly shared a commitment to Communism during the period of the Resistance. Their growing divergence in the post-war period, and the relative inversion of the symbolic prestige granted to each of them, constitute a subject for investigation whose interest goes beyond the respective cases.
The investigation and reflection proposed in this book focus on situating aesthetic practices along a six-part path that combines literary history with the tools of reading theory. To intertextuality, now widely accepted, one can add the notion of “arrière-texte” (with connotations from Aragon), which brings to light certain hidden dimensions of writing-reading. In an approach which this time is close to Ponge’s lexicon, the aim is to extend the words of a writer-reader in a reader-writer’s answer.
Entering this dialogue from a distance is not only trying to understand what profoundly differentiates and links the works; it is also, perhaps, by moving between these two regimes of literary reading, attempting to develop the human dimension on one’s own behalf.
Confronter les œuvres d'Aragon et de Ponge revêt des enjeux littéraires, politiques, anthropologiques. Ces deux figures des lettres du xxe siècle, liées aux avant-gardes, de Dada et du surréalisme (Aragon) à Tel Quel (Ponge), ont partagé fugitivement, durant la période de la Résistance, l'engagement communiste. Leur divergence croissante dans l’après-guerre et l’inversion relative du prestige symbolique accordé à chacun constituent un objet d’investigation dont l’intérêt dépasse les cas respectifs. L’enquête et la réflexion proposées dans ce livre s’attachent à situer les pratiques esthétiques selon un parcours en six parties qui associe à l’histoire littéraire les outils de la théorie de la lecture. À l’intertextualité, désormais classique, est ajoutée la notion d’arrière-texte (aux connotations aragoniennes), qui met au jour certains ressorts cachés de l’écriture-lecture. Il s’agit aussi, dans un esprit cette fois proche du lexique pongien, de prolonger une parole d’écrivain-lecteur en une contre-parole de lecteur-écrivant. S’immiscer dans ce dialogue à distance, ce n’est pas seulement essayer de comprendre ce qui différencie et relie en profondeur les œuvres, c’est aussi, peut-être, par l’oscillation entre ces deux régimes de lecture littéraire, tenter d’élaborer, pour son propre compte, une pensée de l’humain.
