La Mère Sauvage, d’une langue à l’autre. Description d’une lecture littéraire

Abstract : Reading Old Lady Sauvage from a literary perspective means that one needs to integrate in one’s reading synthetic procedures which contribute to the literary effect, as they do to any aesthetic effect. This synthesis can be achieved through combining a process reading and a reflexive and loose reading. At first sight, the mimetic scenario which associates Victoire Simon’s wild violence with the ravages of the war is seducing. The literary reading makes this picture more complex by relating it to the image of the castrating Mother – a figure whose appearance confuses primitively elaborated psychological and ideological identities. Through paying attention to the creative force in the story, the literary reading is also interested in the speculated and playful dimensions, which are about to appear as a mise en abime of madness which even affects the narrator. Its completion leads to the production of a respectful counter-text of the original text, which is both enriched and limited by the performance of the second author who produces it.
