Caractérisation physique et mécanique du bois et des fibres issus d’une palme mûre de palmier dattier

Abstract : The large availability of the date palm by-products suggests their use as reinforcement in composite materials and insulation elements. This requires the physic-mechanical characterization of the various components of the palm. In this context, this study was initiated for the characterization of an important component of the palm, which is the mature palm. The palm is divided into two parts, the petiole and the rachis, and the characterization will then be on the fibrous wood and the fibers of these two parts. The physical characterization will concern the density of fibers and the plant matrix (lignin) as well as the humidity content in the different parts of the mature palm. The mechanical tests will determine the mechanical characteristics of the fibrous wood and the fibers extracted from the two parts of the ripe palm after drying. At the end of this study, the results obtained show the influence of the position of the sample tested (fibrous wood and fibers) on the physic-mechanical properties. These results make it possible to highlight this type of fibrous wood and fibers in the scientific literature, and to consider their use in composite materials and insulation elements.
