La regla y la excepción en los refranes

Abstract : In this article, proverbs are considered from a linguistic point of view, and within the theoretical framework of lexical stereotypes. It’s a well-known fact that proverbs express a general truth. Two main ways of validating this general truth are proposed here: a direct strategy (focusing on the cases which confirm the role, such as ‘Like father, like son’), and an indirect one (focusing on the existence of exceptions, like ‘It’s too late to lock the stable-door when the steed is stolen’).
