La philosophie entre Logique et Musique, Sextus Empiricus et la diaphônia, discussion de quelques arguments de Jonathan Barnes

Abstract : This contribution to a history of the intercourse between philosophy, logic and music shows that diaphônia plays a central part in Pyrrhonism, in spite of those who, believing that it has no philosophical function, reduce its impact to a mere psychological influence. Such a reducing understanding of the word diaphônia happens to overlook part of its real meaning, especially its musical significance, noticeable in Sextus Empiricus’ book Against the Musicians. And yet the musical approach of diaphônia shows itself more relevant than the logical model usually followed, in the task of elucidating the process of “suspensive physics.”
